Since the mid-1800's chocolate has been fondly associated with February the 14th.
For this, there are a few reasons: Romance and pleasure have long been shared with the sensory characteristics attributed to this "food of the gods"(chocolatl). The Aztecs had a chilli pepper laced cacao beverage which was said to stimulate "amorous adventures".
Some scientific studies have made connections between how, when you consume chocolates containing quality cocoa compounds, your brain releases certain chemicals - similar to those created in the brain when experiencing love.
Does chocolate make you fall in love?
